The skills requested in cloud engineering RFPs depend on the type of mission, but several areas of expertise appear regularly.
Cloud platform skills are essential. Companies often look for experience with AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud, including compute, storage, networking, databases, identity management, security and monitoring services.
Automation and DevOps skills are also highly valued. A DevOps engineer or cloud engineer may need to master infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Ansible, GitLab, Jenkins or other automation tools.
Architecture and governance skills are important for more senior roles. A cloud architect must be able to define scalable, secure and cost-efficient architectures, while considering resilience, compliance, data protection, access management and operational constraints.
